Offering state-of-the-art tritium systems and infrastructures
The H3AT research centre represents an important step in the development of tritium technology. Through active engagement with UK industry, academia, national laboratories and government organisations, the research centre will allow vital tritium research and development and grow the tritium capability across the UK.
Process Plant
Our pilot process plant is a 1/20th scale of the ITER fuel cycle with the capability to store, deliver and purify tritium rapidly for use in experiments. This will support future fuel cycle development for ITER, STEP, DEMO and other national and international fusion programmes.
Uniquely designed to allow for further expansion and integration of new technology into the loop as it develops, it offers testing and qualification of fusion related services and hardware.
What the new H3AT facility offers
Process pilot plant
Demonstrating the ITER fuel cycle at 1/20th scale
A closed loop system
Allowing for modelling, testing and validation of continuous flow fuel cycle loops for fusion
Off loop test bed capacity
For developing and qualifying tritium systems
Facilities for developing detritiation techniques
Allowing reprocessing, recovery and disposal of tritiated waste
Rigs for tritium experiments
Allowing fusion research and development and developing transferable solutions beyond fusion
