Who are we looking for?

We are looking to recruit a cluster development manager responsible for engaging with commercial organisations and international partners to develop a vibrant cluster of fusion technology organisations in which UKAEA will play a leading role.

This newly created role represents a great opportunity to help develop our campus as a global centre of fusion technology, and requires you to have previous experience of driving practical collaboration between multiple research-intensive organizations, with responsibility for delivering practical and measurable outcomes. You will be degree qualified in a relevant scientific, technical or engineering discipline and must be confident, diplomatic and pragmatic in your approach to work. An innovative and business minded mentality is required as well as the ability to make informed decisions and with exceptional communication skills. 

Job Description

What will you be responsible for?

  • Engaging with commercial organizations and international partners to develop a vibrant cluster of fusion technology organizations in which our organisation will play a leading role.
  • Working closely with our property group, and the stakeholder management group in managing the relationships with businesses and other commercial organizations.
  • Organising and managing a number of target marketing and communications events.
  • Heading up the development of a Virtual Technology Cluster.
  • Acting as a representative of UKAEA when engaging with external stakeholders and businesses
  • Producing and maintaining a ‘prospectus’ for the fusion technology cluster, articulating the opportunity and value for the cluster. 

This post is based at our Culham site. Extensive travel is not anticipated.


Essential skills, experience and competence required

  • Degree qualified in a relevant scientific, technical or engineering discipline
  • Relevant experience of driving practical collaboration between multiple research-intensive organizations, with responsibility for delivering practical and measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Well organized and capable of managing to deadlines and priorities

Desirable skills, experience and competence

  • Demonstrable experience of Project Management
  • Business development
  • Previous marketing and communications experience with demonstrable stakeholder liaison and engagement
