Who are we looking for?
In the Central Engineering Department we work on a wide variety of projects and across all design lifecycle phases. We are growing the UKAEA virtual engineering programme and have an exciting opportunity for computational engineers or physicists who want to work at the forefront of their field leading in research and execution of integrated multi-disciplinary and multi-physics simulation tools to solve some of our most complex problems.
As an Engineering Analyst (Structural) you will be carrying out mechanical engineering design activities with a particular emphasis on tasks requiring expertise in the use of computer aided engineering (CAE) tools to simulate design functionality and qualify performance.
This will require you to have a 'can do' approach to your work, with innovative solutions to solve problems and push scientific and technical boundaries.
What will you be responsible for?
- Mechanical engineering design activities with a particular emphasis on tasks requiring the use of computer aided engineering (CAE) tools to simulate design functionality and qualify performance.
- Use established calculation tools and classical methods to evaluate designs.
- Create FE models of components and assemblies.
- Undertake code testing and validation.
- Write technical reports.
Essential skills, experience and competence required
- A relevant engineering degree or equivalent.
- Use of established calculation tools and classical methods to evaluate designs.
- Expertise in the application of Computer Aided Simulation techniques.
- Creation of FE models of components and assemblies.
- Good working knowledge of structural and thermal engineering, solid mechanics and engineering materials.
- Good technical writing skills.
Desirable skills, experience and competence
- Ability to work cooperatively to achieve the best possible result.
- Experience with working to design standards.
- Leading teams and supervising other staff.
- A passion for nurturing science and technological excellence, remaining determined, flexible and positive to the challenges we face.

Please note that the post holder could be asked to work in radiation controlled areas or in beryllium controlled areas. Full training and medical assessments will be provided if this is necessary
