What can I expect from the recruitment process at UKAEA?

Once you have submitted a formal application via our website, all CVs will be reviewed shortly after the closing date of the advert.

Following that, if shortlisted you will typically be asked to take part in a 20 – 30 minute telephone interview to talk through your experience and motivations for wanting to join UKAEA and suitability for the role advertised.

If successful, a second stage 60-minute face to face interview (online interview during Covid-19 pandemic) will be arranged in which you will be asked more detailed questions which will contain a mixture of technical and behavioural competency questions. We have a number of other assessments that you may be asked to complete as part of the interview (role dependent), which could include:

  • Online personality profiling questionnaire
  • Presentation
  • Analysis of technical information / schematics
  • Online aptitude and ability tests
  • Role play
  • In tray exercises

Outcomes are typically made after these two rounds; however, you may be asked to attend a third interview to meet members of the team or to clarify further information if necessary.

Pre-employment checks

Right to work in the UK

Candidates who are a British citizen or have pre-settled / settled status have the right to work in the UK without obtaining a work permit. However, please note that you will need to produce clear documentation to show that you have formal permission to work in the UK. This documentation will be checked and verified during the interview process.

UKAEA is licensed to sponsor migrants under Tiers 2 & 5 of the Points-Based System. The process for obtaining a visa can be complex and will depend on the pool of candidates who apply for each vacancy as to whether sponsorship can be granted.

Security checks

You will be required to undergo basic security vetting, including a criminal records check.

References

We will request details of your referees, one of whom must be your current or most recent employer. We will not contact your referees until a verbal offer of employment has been made and accepted.
